1. Casio G-Shock DW-5600BB

The G-Shock DW-5600BB is designed with toughness in mind also known as the basic black, probably that’s why BB is denoted.

If you want a drop of weirdness and unicity on your watch, this resin plastic square face matte black finishing design with inverted LCD is for you. Instead of having dark numbers on a light background it has light numbers on a dark background. You can see some writing around the screen “adjust-mode-light-start/stop” and stealth ‘G-SHOCK’ and ‘PROTECTION’ lettering on the bezel protects the mineral crystal.

The strap is also made of resin but if resin strap is not your thing, there’s also a nylon fabric version with the model number DW-5600BBN-1. Although it won’t be replacing your analogue watches in the office.

Another feature worth mentioning about this unique timepieces is that you can select to have a flashing backlight when an alarm sounds on the watch, or when the countdown timer reaches zero.

Oscar bought this watch for regular casual wear but now he is using it for regular job wear. Read more reviews here.

2. Seiko 5 Automatic SNK809

One of the best watches under $100 is Seiko SNK809 which looks a lot like the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical watch ($400). At a glance, Pilot-inspired matte finish stainless steel case with matte black dial, watch does not appear to be the most attractive of watches, but many consumers find that it is perfect for day-to-day activities.

The outer rim of the face has white Arabic numerals with larger dots every 5 minutes while a smaller interior circle of Arabic numerals mark the hours – which gives the watch a military aesthetic. Day/date complication within a single window and recessed crown at 4 o’clock makes the watch very unique. The circle marking of every five minutes, white lollipop on second hand, white hour and minute hands filled with Seiko’s renowned luminous paint.

Hardlex mineral dial window and visible exhibition case-back with 21-jewel automatic movement offers a lot more than a mechanical watch should. It comes with a durable black nylon strap which can easily be either dressed up, or dressed down.

Paul was very impressed for an automatic at this price. Other watches he owns have large cases and he have a small wrist so he chose this as a discreet daily wearer. He thought the strap quality is not high enough so he change it with a Bond NATO. He doesn’t take it off while swimming and sleeping. He is happy with his Seiko and NATO combination. 3. Wenger Urban Metropolitan

Like the much-loved Timex Weekender, this Swiss watch is flat and simple. Swiss watches are famous around the world because they have been making the most reliable, durable and stylish watches for hundreds of years. Though to have those kind of watches you have to pay a lot unless you buy a Wenger Urban Metropolitan 01.1041.136 model. It is slightly above $100 but it often comes with a discount that makes it under $100.

The black dial is a clear with large Arabic number, easy to read with luminous hour and minute hand. There is a red hunting arrow on second hand that reach up to the edge and a label of ‘Swiss Made’ at 6 o’clock. The date is simple and easy to read, relatively bigger crown, both at the 3 o’clock position.

Like other Wenger watches it has a Swiss made quartz movement and is good down to 100m (330ft) so can certainly get wet, or even cam go for a swim (but with the leather strap you probably should not). And the mineral glass has a sapphire coating to help reduce the chance of scratches. All in all, this is the watch for anyone who wants the classic Wenger look with a modern touch.

There is an interesting history of Wenger watches, if you are interested check out their wiki here.

Frank says this watch is well made and not too bulky. He complains about the watch dial because sometimes it is difficult to read in the dark, though this watch has luminous hands, but they do not glow enough to read. He also said the date display should be slightly larger. Despite everything it is a nice watch and it lasts longer than all this cheap watches so far, he said. Read more reviews here.

4. Fossil Grant Chronograph FS4813

The Fossil Grant FS4813 is one of the most popular models from the brand and it takes just one quick look to see why.

The black dial on this watch is pure class, mix of large gold-color Roman numeral hour markers and small Arabic numeral second markers. It has bold white skeleton hour and minute hands and gold-color second hand. In order to create a sense of depth it has three sub-dials over the numeral, one for 24-hour time and the other two are for the stopwatch that can time up to 30 minutes. While there is a lot going on chronograph, time is still incredibly easy to read, especially since the hands are coated in lume to increase visibility when it’s dark

Fossil is known for using high-quality leather in their straps and the brown leather strap that comes with the Fossil FS4813 is incredibly comfortable to wear, the perfect complement to the classy case and golden-black dial.

James says the leather feels quite nice and flexible but still has that new leather ridge feeling.

Katie bought this watch for her husband and she says it is great watch for both casual everyday use and business events, beautiful design and fits my husband’s wrist well.

Nicky is really disappointed because after wearing it just at home for few days, the rose gold color started to tarnish to silver. Read more reviews here.

5. Orient Bambino Version 2

Simply put, the Orient Bambino Ver. 2 is probably the best dress watch under $100 out there.

The white dial is nothing, short of stunning with the reflective roman numerals for the hour markings and train-track rings around edge. This watch will get you noticed for its shiny crystal dome that gives a premium look. At the correct angles, this watch is a stunner and an ideal dress companion.

The next thing you will notice are the brilliant blue hands of the watch. The long-sweeping seconds hand, and the sharp lines of the hour and minutes hands. At 3 o’clock is a date window in lieu of an applied marker. It doesn’t feel out of place but at the same time it does not feel 100% right either.

The leather strap is a slightly glossy dark-brown color, almost patent-leather kind of a strap. It just does the job of looking high quality and feels like high quality. Overall, the style is spot on retro-goodness and both the build and finishing were respectable.

Orient Bambino Version 2

Orient Bambino Version 2 Specification:

  • Case size: 40 mm Diameter, 12 mm Thickness
  • Case material: Stainless steel
  • Dial: Analogue with date window
  • Movement: Japanese automatic

Customer Review:

Donald is a watch nerd and he owned all watches from an Omega to an Alpha. He says this Orient Bambino dial is the equal of any of watch he have ever owned. To him this watch looks splendid and accurate as a quartz. He also said the strap is perfectly matched to the mood and tone of the watch. Read more reviews here.

6. Citizen BI5000-01A

The Citizen BI5000-01A slim appearance watch is a classic-looking dress piece that features a minimalist design, a professional aesthetic and fantastic functionality.

It comes equipped with a round silver-tone stainless steel case and a Croco-embossed calfskin leather wristband, and both of them look and feel incredible. The white dial consists of metallic bar hour markings, no Arabic or Roman numerals, three hands with lume on the hour and minute hands. The display is extremely easy to read and the small window at 3 o’clock also displays an easy-to-read date.

The watch feels extremely solid and well built, looks incredibly elegant and the black- white- silver color scheme makes this watch compatible with almost any dress style.

  • Band: 22 mm width brown leather strap

Customer Review:

Claude wears this watch every day & try to take good care of it. He lives in a tropical climate & travel to temperate zones occasionally. For 6 months he found no changes on this watch but after 12 months the battery stopped working and the leather band had to be changed because it started showing serious signs of wear & tear. He says it’s a decent watch but not good for long-term usage beyond 2-3years but he will try to push it to 4 years. Read more reviews here.

7. Braun BN0032

We have chosen another simple and well-designed watch from the German company Braun. The Braun BN0032 model comes in both white and black dial but black dial will cost you just over $100 where white dial is way under $100. There is also an option for black stainless steel strap, comes with extra money but I like the black leather strap though longibility is less.

On the white dial we have this really simple and easy to read display with small black numeral style hour markers neatly placed around the edge of the dial. A small date display at the 6 o’clock position and a yellow second hand adds a nice splash of colour to the dial. This dial is well protected by mineral crystal glass lens which provides good level of scratch and shatter resistance.

Braun BN0032

Braun BN0032 Specification:

  • Case size: 40 mm Diameter, 8 mm Thickness
  • Case material: Stainless steel
  • Dial: Analogue with date window
  • Movement: Japanese automatic
  • Crystal: Mineral
  • Band: 21 mm width leather strap
  • Water Resistance: 50 meters (165 feet)

Customer Review:

Mike loved the design of this watch so he bought it. The description shown on Amazon that “Special Feature: German Made” influenced him as well. When it arrived, he noticed the sticker says “made in China”. He also found some flaws in it like the second hand was slightly curved and bottom tick mark of 6 was not aligned. So he sent it back and got a new one which was perfectly fine. Read more reviews here.

8. Seiko 5 Automatic SNKK71

If you are looking for a stainless-steel bracelet dress watch, from the master craftsmen at Seiko, the Seiko Men’s SNKK71 is the best watch under $100 for you.

The round analogue dial uses a very humble silver-on-jet black arrangement with simple index-style hour markers, sharp tapered triangular hand design, and a straightforward day-date window at 3 o’clock position. Seiko’s renowned luminous paint has been applied to the minute and hour hands and tips of the hour markers so this watch is still functional in dark or low-light conditions.

Instead of flashy design elements, the steeply angled bezel combined with further steeper angled chapter ring gives stunning overall look. Hardlex is Seiko’s signature crystal choice, with flawless execution of each component, adding several millimetres from the Hardlex they created a real sense of depth on this watch.

The exhibition case-back reveals 21-jewel self-winding automatic movement simply turns this metallic watch over to view its constantly cranking automatic movement.

  • Case size: 38 mm Diameter, 12 mm Thickness
  • Case material: Stainless steel
  • Dial: Analogue with day-date window
  • Movement: Automatic
  • Crystal: Hardlex
  • Band: 17.5 mm width stainless steel
  • Water Resistance: 30 meters (100 feet)

Customer Review:

Ankthas first impression was “it’s a decent dress watch with an excellent price tag”. He says it’s way better looking in real life than photos. He suggested if you are a hairy person, you should change the bracelet and get a decent leather strap because this bracelet might rip off your wrist hair. The luminescence on hands and markers are bright enough though it doesn’t last all night long, he said. He highly recommended this watch to new starters of mechanical watch as they can see mechanism working just turning the watch upside down. Read more reviews here.

9. Lacoste Vienna Quartz

If none every suggested you this watch, let me be the first one. Lacoste Men’s Vienna model 2011073 is a great addition to the entry-level watch market. The watch features a, discreet Lacoste archive-inspired grey dial texture inside an elegant round stainless steel stationary bezel case design on a 5-link stainless steel bracelet.

The grey textured dial has simple index-style hour markers, no Arabic or Roman numerals to cluster around, silver color hour and minute hands, and an emerald-green color second hand which makes the watch eye catchy. Unfortunately there is no date window but there is a Crocodile, Lacoste logo at 3 o’clock position.

Quartz movement provides precise timekeeping and durable mineral crystal protecting the dial, retaining a certain flavor of elegance and class, makes it minimal maintenance for a reliable and worry-free timepiece.

10. Vostok Komandirskie Automatic 24 Hour Dial

Vostok is one of the well-regarded Russian brands started at the end of world war 2 and appointed an official supplier of watches for the Ministry of Defence of the Soviet Union in 1965. Vostok Komandirskie is known as the commanders’ watch.

Modern Vostok Komandirskie 650541 shock resistant version comes in both black dial and white dial. You also can choose stainless steel bracelet or NATO strap. I prefer the black dial with stainless steel bracelet.

The dial comes with 24 hour Arabic numeral, only the even numbers. Lume is applied on the doted hour markers on the dial and on three hands of the watch. There is a date window at 6 o’clock and a recessed crown at 4 o’clock. The black bezel with second markers can freely rotate on either side.

This historical watch has self-winding movement with 32 ruby jewels, finish on this watch also seems to be of higher quality, which makes this watch fun to collect and wear.

Vostok Komandirskie Automatic

Vostok Komandirskie Automatic 24 Hour Dial Specification:

  • Case size: 42 mm Diameter, 15 mm Thickness

Customer Review:

Justin had a great experience with this watch. He says it looks and feels like a very sturdy watch, plus it’s unique with the 24 hour dial (first watch he have ever seen with a 24 h dial). He winded it the very first day when he received it, months have passed and he never had to wind it again. The watch is easily readable at day and night.

The watch came in its own box inside the shipping envelope and the watch itself was completely covered with film to protect it from scratches inside the box. The instructions that came with the watch was in Russian, so he used Google to translate it. Read more reviews here.

11. Fossil Nate Chronograph JR1437

Whenever someone talks about the Fossil, classic-versatile-quality, these three words comes to my mind.

Fossil Nate Chronograph JR1437 is a super handsome gent’s watch with gunmetal grey lon-plated stainless steel case and bracelet (interchangeable with all Fossil 24mm watch straps). The black dial with grey fade from centre gives the watch a unique look. This Nate watch also features a chronograph movement, three separate dials to track military-inspired 24 hours, 60 seconds and 30 minutes timer. Upper crown to start countdown and stop, lower crown to reset countdown.

Dark dial with Arabic numerals and white lume indexes adds a laidback yet rugged style. Date window at 4:30 o’clock seems alright.  50 mm dia bi-directional rotating bezel will look odd on a smaller wrist. So if you have bigger wrist it’s perfect for you. The best part is that you get a watch that delivers classic, versatile and quality for less than $100.

Fossil Nate Chronograph JR1437

Fossil Nate Chronograph JR1437 Specification:

  • Case size: 50 mm Diameter, 14 mm Thickness
  • Case material: Stainless steel
  • Dial: Analogue Chronograph with date window

  • Crystal: Mineral
  • Band: 24 mm width stainless steel
  • Water Resistance: 103 meters (340 feet)

Customer Review:

Rudy says it’s a fantastic looking watch with a large, easy to read face. He has received many complements within 2 days after wearing it. Gun metal color of the watch and gear shaped bezel gives it industrious look, white hands make it easy to see in all lighting conditions. Build quality very tough as he have already smacked it around quite a bit and knocked it on some things, it still holds up well.

His only complain is the second hand is not perfectly aligned with the marker though it’s a huge complain he has for all the watches he has. Read more reviews here.

12. Orient Ray II FA002004B9

If you are looking for an affordable sporty automatic dive watch, Orient Ray II is definitely one of the best options out there. Though the price is just above $100 but it always comes with a coupons and you can get it under $100. Orient is always praised and appreciated for making high-quality and well-finished watches and the second generation of the Orient Ray is one of them.

The mineral crystal provides a clear view of the matte black dial, surrounded by a chapter ring that gives depth to the watch that many would call “submariner style”. Hour and minute hands are chromium-plate sword, the second hand looks like an arrow with blood tipped lume end. Orient has always done beautiful work with the day-date window, which is separated in two chromed frame.

A polished black diving bezel sits on top of the case with an aluminium second markers and a small luminescent pip at the 12 o’clock position with 120 unidirectional click for improved precision.

With 22 jewels automatic movement and 200 meters of water resistance, there are not many better alternatives on the market that can be both a dive watch and double as a dressier option.

Orient Ray II FA002004B9 Specification:

  • Case size: 41 mm Diameter, 13 mm Thickness
  • Case material: Stainless steel
  • Dial: Analogue with day-date window
  • Movement: Swiss Automatic with 22 jewels
  • Crystal: Mineral
  • Band: 22 mm width stainless steel
  • Water Resistance: 200 meters (660 feet)

Customer Review:

Scott says Orient makes a great watch and this watch is bang for the buck. He suggested if you are thinking about this orient over say a Seiko SKX, you must do it. He explained, the main reason is the upgrade automatic movement with hacking and wind. Also the band is comfortable and not a “hair grabber.” He is fussy about watch bands and the orient bracelet is very comfy and well made. The face of the watch is GORGEOUS but photos do not do the justice. Read more reviews here.

Chris says he love this watch for its simplistic design and easy to read watch face. But he is disappointed with the color of the leather band. He says the advertised picture looks much darker but the actual color of this band is not that dark brown. But still it’s a handsome watch to wear.

Justin says he worn the watch for few weeks and it feels very comfortable. The leather is very soft from the first time you wear it and it doesn’t collect moisture during hot season. He says this watch goes well with anything like in board shorts and a T-shirt or in slacks and a button up. Read more reviews here.

Quick Video on 16 Best Watches Under 100 Dollars

Watch Buying Guide

The 16 watches above that we have selected are well build and high quality. No doubt you can choose any one of them according to your needs. But before purchasing one make sure you consider the following things.

Case design is the most important part of a watch as everyone notice it first. If you have a smaller wrist don’t buy any watch above 45 mm diameter such as Fossil Nate Chronograph JR1437. You can have watches like Seiko 5 or Orient Ray II.

It is called heart of the watch. Most of the watch comes with high quality Quartz. But if you want to have an automatic (mechanical) movement go for Seiko 5, Orient Ray II or Vostok Komandirskie without any hesitation.

A good quality band is very important for a watch. Some prefer leather band, some prefer stainless steel bracelet. You can choose whatever you like. Some bracelets are hair reaper, so be aware of that. Also a leather strap will show its age and will last hardly 2 years. For casual wear a NATO strap is preferred.

Purpose of Your Watch

Every watch has its purpose. You can’t wear Fossil Grant FS4813 for morning want, you shouldn’t. Again Casio G-Shock DW-5600BB is not designed for a 3 piece suite. If you know for which purpose you will use your watch, choosing a witch will be easier. For everyday use you can choose Seiko 5 Automatic with black canvas strap or Amazfit Bip.

We hope you have liked our 16 best watches under 100 dollars. Let us know which one is the best fit for you. Do you think we should have picked other watch that you found more eligible to fit in this list? We welcome your feedback. Email us at editor@modestwatch.com.
